About the Monastery

Saint Gregory of Sinai Monastery is an Eastern Orthodox men’s community established in 1983.  The founder and first Abbot of the Monastery was His Grace, Sergios, retired Bishop of Portland.  On January 12, 2017, Bishop Sergios retired and his co-founder Archimandrite Patrick was installed as Abbot of the community.

The Monastery is in the Diocese of Etna and Portland and under the omophorion of His Grace Bishop Auxentius.  His Grace Bishop Auxentius is a member of the Eparchial Synod of North and South America, whose presiding Hierarch is His Eminence, Metropolitan Demetrius. The American Eparchial Synod is the North American branch of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece (GOC), whose presiding Hierarch is His Beatitude, Archbishop Kallinikos of Athens.

The community offers a daily cycle of services in its chapel, dedicated since 1988 to Saint Silouan the Athonite. The chief support of the Monastery is iconography.

The Monastery is located in the mountains of Northern California.
